About Progressive Enhancement
Today's Web browsers (i.e. Firefox, Internet Explorer) were built to browse text and pictures, and must use extra software programs called plug-ins to display fun interactive media types like Flash.
Since some internet users may not have up-to-date media plug-ins installed, it is best practice
to also design standard formatted content that can be displayed instead.
Progressive Enhancement means first presenting your site to the public using pages of standard HTML markup, images, and text copy, which opens the door for search engines and users. With some planning, you can maximize your website's visibility to search engines and users with special needs & devices while maintaining graphic design themes across different sites and media types.
